Indonesian Tastes

Each food has their own taste! Especially when we talk about Indonesian food! You shoulda have many vocabularies to describe the taste of Indonesian food! Here we are. I’ll give you some basic vocabularies you shoulda know!

Indonesian Vocabularies of Taste

asin – salty

manis – sweet

pahit – bitter

pedas – refers to the hotness of chilli

asam – sour

hambar – bland

lezat – delicious

amis – fishy

basi - stale

renyah – crispy (actually crispy become often heard in normal Indonesian)

panas – hot

dingin – cold

Let’s put it into example :

Minuman ini terlalu dingin. This drink is too cold.

Minuman ini kurang dingin. This drink in not that cold.

Makanan ini rasanya enak. This food taste delicious.

Nasi goreng ini pedas sekali. This nasi goreng is really hot.

Makanan yang itu lebih pedas. That food is hotter.

Saya tidak suka makanan yang asin. I don’t like salty food.

Saya paling suka makanan yang asam manis. I really like sweet and sour meal.
